Inauguration of the first underground ecolodge at Entre Cîmes et Racines: the Hobbit
On May 17, 2011, Entre Cîmes et Racines inaugurated its 11th ecolodge: the Hobbit. For the first time in Québec, it is now possible to rent and stay in an underground dwelling.
This “hobbit” house was built partly underground and has a green roof, so it seems like part of the forest. The circular door and windows and the stone and wood interior lend this ecolodge a “Tolkeinesque” air, worthy of the Lord of the Rings.
The dining area, fully-equipped kitchenette and bedroom (double bunk beds) are set in one large room. The dry toilet is attached. The ecolodge can accommodate 4 people.
Entre Cîmes et Racines (our name means “between root and crown”) is a family business offering accommodation in the woods near Eastman, Québec in the Eastern Townships. An hour away from Montréal, our 11 ecolodges help you relax and get away from it all in the heart of nature. Come see us, and you can both unplug and reenergize at any time of the year in 175 acres (71 hectares) of forest. On site, we have 15 km of roads and trails, a maze, 3 streams, bridges and a scavenger hunt, and more. In summer, bicycles in all sizes and ice are available to guests free of charge. In winter, snowshoes are available for rent.
Entre Cîmes et Racines provides daily deliveries of drinking water, firewood and candles for all 11 ecolodges. Sanitary facilities are available at all times in the Campanile, the reception building.
Award: Regional winner in the Grands Prix du tourisme Québécois in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012. Bronze at the provincial level in 2010 and Gold in 2008.
